Fungicides
The importance of Fungicides
With the current climatic conditions providing a perfect environment for fungal diseases to thrive, fungicide applications over fodder beet crops should be considered. The picture here shows a quick visual comparison between treated and untreated crops after a recent early application.
Some other keys points to note are:
• Bayer conducted trials across the country in 2017 and reported an average yield increase of 15% vs. untreated with 2 applications of Escolta.
• The application of a fungicide increases leaf retention for longer, therefore providing increased protein levels to the animals, particularly at the start of the transition.
• Remember these fungicides work best when used as a preventive, application is recommended before or at the first signs of infection.
• Make sure to work and adhere to grazing withholding periods of chemical use.
