Home Grain & Seed team visit European customers and look to the future
Glenn Moore, GM Seed and Mark O’Grady, International Sales Manager visited the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland at the end of May/early June. This trip provided an opportunity to meet with our customers and visit innovative businesses.
A key highlight of the trip was attending the ISF World Seed Congress 2024 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. It was the 100th anniversary of the conference and the biggest seed world congress ever held, with almost 2000 attendees. 60+ meetings were scheduled during the three-day event. It was valuable to discuss current and potential new crops, any issues, weather conditions, and future production opportunities in person.
While in Switzerland, the team visited the Bühler Group in Uzwil to discuss the future of food. The company is a global leader, working towards achieving a 50% reduction in energy and food waste in its processes by 2050 and collaborating with its customers to reduce the energy used in food production by 50%.
One interesting highlight of the trip was going to Lenggenwil to visit a guru of wildflower production in Switzerland. Conditions were wet, and no gumboots were available, so the team improvised with garbage bags. This high-value market is comprised flowers you’d often see growing on the side of the roads and motorways. They grew wildflowers from six different regions of the country and used a homemade drone to look for wildflowers.
