Industrial Hemp Update

The Carrfields Grain & Seed, Industrial Hemp programme is showcasing our ability to offer new crops to New Zealand growers.  With the involvement from progressive growers, New Zealand Natural Fibres (previously NZ Yarn), Carrfields Seeds and Carrfields Contracting, we can provide the scale and expertise to undertake the growing, logistics, processing, right through to the marketing of the end product.

2021 hemp fibre crops have been sown from late October, followed by the sowing of hemp grain crops from mid-November.  Over the month of December, we will see rapid growth of these crops with fibre crops expected to grow to above 2.5 meters in height, and harvest will occur in early February.

Following the Christmas period, the excitement in the Carrfields Grain & Seed Industrial Hemp programme will continue to grow as we look to commission our specialised hemp decortication machine that is located at New Zealand Natural Fibres in Christchurch.  This will be the first commercial decortication plant in New Zealand and will allow Carrfields to promote both wool and hemp into the natural fibre market.
